
CHARTER Program : Ancient Italian Art Production
This summer art class in Italy is the quintessential experience for anyone interested in Italian art, culture, and history. During the action-packed month of June 2010 you will discover the fresco, mosaic, papermaking, manuscripting, bookbinding, gilding, and egg tempera art production techniques of Roman, Medieval, Gothic, and Renaissance era Italian artists while creating several masterpieces of your own.
You will live and learn in the quaint village of Cuorgnè, which is nestled in the foothills of the Italian Alps on the outskirts of Torino (Turin), and take guided tours of the surrounding mountains, valleys, castles and churches studying the art, history, and culture of Northern Italy. You
will visit Milan with its magnificent Duomo and Leonardo da Vinci's famous painting of "The Last Supper" as well as Lago Maggiore and beautiful Isola Bella's Italian gardens. This course also includes a fantastic 3 day guided tour of Florence and its hotspots that will surely deepen your knowledge of the art and history of Medieval and Renaissance Italy.
This month-long art class in the summer of 2010 combines the instruction of 3 minicourses (Ancient Italian Interior Design: Fresco & Mosaic Production, Medieval Book Production: Illumination, Papermaking, & Bookbinding, and Gothic and Renaissance Painting: Gold Leaf & Egg Tempera) in the techniques of ancient Italian art production into one "illuminating" experience.
